Tablet:-
Tablets may be defined as the solid unit dosage form of medicament or medicaments with or
without suitable excipients and prepared either by molding or by compression. It comprises a
mixture of active substances and excipients, usually in powder form, pressed or compacted
from a powder into a solid dose.
TYPE OF TABLETS
Sugar coated tab.
Film coated tab
Enteric coated tab.
Multiple coated tab.
Sustained release tab.
Repeat action tab.
For these production they required specific type of Excipient:-
DILUENTS:- Diluents are also very important in the pharmaceutical industry. They are
inactive ingredients that are added to tablets and capsules in addition to the active drug.
Diluent two types
- Insoluble tablet fillers. Ex. Starch, Powdered cellulose, Monocrystalline Cellulose, Calcium Phasphate.
- Soluble tablet fillers. Ex. Lactose, Sucrose, Mannitol, Sorbitol.
BINDER ADHESIVE:- A binder is a liquid added to a dry substance in order to draw
it together in such a way that it maintains a uniform consistency.
Example:- Cellulose, Methyl cellulose, Polyvinylpyrrolidine and Polyethylene Gylcol etc.
DISINTEGRANTS:- A disintegrate is an excipient which is added to a tablet or
capsule blend to aid in the break up of the compacted mass when it is put into a fluid
environment. This is especially important release products where rapid release of drug
substance is required.
Example:- Crosslinked Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, Crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone, Starch Sodium starch glycolate etc.
LUBRICANTS:- Lubricant is a substance introduced to reduce friction between
moving surfaces friction and prevent from clumping together and from sticking to the tablet pouch that is known as lubricity.
Example:- Talc or Silica, Vegetable stearin, Magnesium Stearate and Stearic acid etc.
GLIDANTS & FLOW PROMOTERS:- A glidant is a substance that is added to a
powder to improve its flow ability. A gildant will only work at a certain range of
concentrations because at above concentrations it inhibit flowability. In tablet
manufacture, glidants are usually added just prior to compression.
Example:- Silica, Talc Magnesium carbonate etc.
COLORS, DYE & SWEETENERS:- Coloring and Sweetening agent are use in tablet preparation for the increase the patient acceptable, improving appearance, make ingredient palatable and as antacid are chewable because of coloring and sweetening agent important to improving tablet acceptance.
Example:- according to API ( Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients)
